Frequent Information for Hangmans Drop stayers

Diesel Car Owners – please make sure you have diesel additive / Freeze prevention for Diesel fuels ready to be put into your diesel tank full before entry to Great Alpine Road – do not rely on “Alpine Diesel” unless your tank is 100% empty before you fill up with it. Some days as many as 50+ cars require the RACV for this basic mistake.

  • Getting a car pass – Entry Hotham before 3pm will be charged for a full days entry. Entry gantries are about 15 minutes from the actual village. Day entry can be purchased on Hotham website
  • Chains – see below- if you intend to fit you own chains carry some old gloves, and a rubber/plastic sheet to kneel on. Have your beanie and warm jacket easily accessible. We recommend hiring your chains from Hoys Harrietville. They offer a free chain fitting & removal mobile service on the Great Alpine Road between Harrietville & Mt Hotham Village for their chain customers. Chains can also be hired from their new ski shop at 150 Day Ave Omeo. (No fitting service that side of the mountain) Hoys website
  • Summer visitors – we can get snow at any time of the year. It is rarely a problem for more than a few hours.

  • From Harrietville, drive through Hotham Central (the commercial area with the visible ski lifts) and continue toward Dinner Plain. You pass the Big D, then The General Store on your right. Jack Frost Ski Hire/Bus Stop 7 is about 200m further down the road on the right. Hangmans Drop SC is the 4th building on the right after this- just above the staircase access.
  • From Omeo/Dinner Plain Hangmans Drop is between Bus Stops 8 and 7 on the left, at the top of the staircase access.
  • Day Parking is usually available very near the lodge. Your car MUST be moved by the evening to an overnight park  for the remainder of your winter stay.
  • During Summer season only, you can turn right at Jack/Frost/ Bus stop 7 onto Davenport access Track, and park just at the back door of Hangmans on the gravel.​
  • If you plan to arrive before 2pm check-in, please be mindful that others are still enjoying their stay. Do not disturb them.
  • Food and Eskies can be neatly stored out of the way, in the outside lobby. Please Do NOT start stowing your stuff inside the lodge until 2pm.
 

Others are enjoying their stay or may be checking out – No main building check in till 2pm.

 
  • Car can be parked usually near the stair case for easy lugging of stuff.
  • Oversnow transport can take your gear from Bus Stop 7/Jack Frost to the back door.
  • Your gear can be neatly stored in the 1st lobby – do not impede access to other guests gear, please.
  • Your car will need to be driven to an overnight park for the remainder of the stay.
  • Your room allocation will be written on the white board in the main lobby.
  • Arrange gear hire-Jack Frost and Hoys are only a short walk- Club Lodge guests get a discount!.
  • Hangmans guests can receive 20% off ALL adult, senior, youth & child ski and board rental packages at any Hoys shops.
    OR upgrade to 25% off packages – prebook & prepay at least 3 days prior to arrival.
  • Special Gear hire- for general and something particular- Hotham Central, Central SnowSports, Alberg, or Zirkys.
  • Time for a well-earned snack and Beverage!

Club Lodges are all about fun, sharing spaces, swapping hero-stories, making new friends and catching up with old ones. It’s a well-earned and anticipated break from the usual routines, technology, and grind, in an amazing natural environment. Our Club only has approximately ten weeks to cover year-round costs, and members volunteer much time to making sure the facilities make your stay enjoyable. It’s quite different to staying in a fully serviced hotel.

Our Snow Season Lodge Manager is here to make you welcome, but NOT to clean up, or child-mind for you.

Here are basic rules make this much easier in a small lodge, and keep the accommodation costs to a minimum.

​Inside the Lodge

  • please follow check-in and check-out times for everyone’s enjoyment
  • leave time for a thorough clean of your room and communal spaces before check-out
  • please keep communal spaces tidy, clean and clutter-free during your stay
  • please keep the bathrooms at a reasonable standard during your stay- leave personal items and towels in your room
  • we have great recycling at Mt Hotham, especially for food scraps- please speak to our Lodge Manager
  • please follow the usual food hygiene rules, and stack and empty the dishwasher, and put things away
  • please turn heaters off or down, rather than open windows to vent heat.
  • Turn the TV off, or better still, have a proper game!
  • Are all the groups in the Lodge happy with loud music or kids running riot?
  • Security- the Door code is for you, only.

    Outside the Lodge

  • Have you brought all your gear in? Have your kids brought all their toboggans and shovels in? Leaving stuff lying in the snow is a no -no……

    Technology

  • Free Wifi!
  • You can of course, use your phone as a portable hotspot.
  • TV- its not a massive plasma screen. It gets Northern Territory advertising sometimes. We do not have Foxtel.
  • Bluetooth sound system.

    Other Stuff

  • Dart board – in the outside lobby – if you are a pro, bring your own pro darts.
  • Games – in the seat cavities in the annex upstairs.
  • NO DOGS/PETS allowed by order of Mount Hotham Resort Management Board, in the Resort.


On Departure – Check out 10am – please leave time to get your cleaning done.
You can definitely have a full day skiing by following these simple tips:

  • Get the car and bring it up to park near the lodge – do you need to borrow a shovel? Please return it. This way, a lot of your gear can be ready packed.
  • Leave out driving clothes and shoes
  • Clean and vaccuum the bedrooms
  • Clean the bathrooms and toilet
  • Stack and set the dishwasher
  • Clean the ovens and cooktops
  • Vacuum common areas
  • Check common areas for books, phones, phone chargers, etc etc
  • Empty EVERYTHING you have brought from the fridges and pantry, unless you personally have handed it to someone still staying in the lodge – left overs are a nightmare.
  • Take the rubbish, recycle and composting bags to the Rubbish hut
  • Check if you left anything behind in your room / drying room / lobby room TWICE!
  • Return the shovel if you have borrowed it
  • Check the ski storage, and balcony
  • Return any hire gear after ski/boarding
  • Return chains where you hired
